Core Principle

The thermal profiler travels through the heating furnace together with the workpiece. It collects real-time multi-point temperatures via thermocouples, and its built-in high-speed data acquisition chip records the complete heating profile. After exiting the furnace, data is uploaded to a computer to generate temperature curves, from which process parameters such as heating rate, peak temperature and soak time can be obtained.

Detailed Process

  1. Temperature Sensing Probes (Thermocouples)Thermocouples are temperature sensors working on the Seebeck effect: when two dissimilar metal conductors are joined at both ends, a weak thermoelectric voltage is generated if a temperature difference exists between the two junctions. The magnitude of this thermoelectric voltage corresponds to temperature. The instrument converts voltage signals into temperature readings. Multiple thermocouples are attached to different positions of the workpiece (battery cells, PCBs, heat sinks, etc.) to synchronously collect multi-point temperature data.
  2. Data Logger UnitThe logger passes through the furnace alongside the workpiece. It is protected by a thermal barrier case to isolate high furnace temperature and prevent damage to internal circuit boards and batteries. The high-speed ADC continuously reads thermocouple signals and stores temperature-time data at a preset sampling interval (e.g. 0.1s per sample). Data is recorded offline without external wiring during the whole test.
  3. Data AnalysisOnce the test is finished and the unit exits the furnace, connect it to PC software. The software retrieves stored data and plots the temperature profile curve. It automatically calculates process metrics including heating slope, peak temperature, constant-temperature duration and reflow time to verify whether the thermal treatment or soldering process meets specifications.

Brief Application in New Energy Vehicle Manufacturing

Used for curing, soldering and drying furnaces of battery PACKs, motor stators, on-board PCBs and power devices. Thermocouples are mounted at multiple spots on the same workpiece to capture temperature variations across the part, avoiding overheating of battery cells and thermal damage to power components, and ensuring consistent mass production quality.
